Getting a high search engine ranking doesn't happen overnight. While it won't happen quickly, if you make a consistent effort, and you follow the right strategies, you can definitely achieve a high page rank (PR) with the major search engines.

Achieving a high ranking is analogous to running for a political office. Just like you need to get votes in order to win an election, you also need votes in order to get a high search engine score. Getting links to your site is the same as getting votes. If it is all about getting links, then the more that you have the higher you should rank right? Wrong! Also just like with a political campaign, some votes carry more weight than do others. If you have 1,000 links to your site from pages that have a low PR, then your site is not going to benefit enough to push you up in the search engine's organic results; however, if you have 300 links from sites that have reputations for being quality sites with quality content, then you have a much better chance of increasing your position in the search results page.

Here are a few quick tips for improving your page rank. First of all, make sure that you don't associate with any "bad neighbors". Linking to sites with poor reputations will hurt your overall quality score and pull down the ranking of your page. Keywords are important to the search engines because keywords are used to help index the pages. Use a handful of specific keywords and not just a smattering of imprecise keywords.

Another thing, it's important for the search engines to see quality content on a consistent basis. They love fresh, high-quality content. One thing that search engines don't like are sales pages. So how can you associate your sales page with high-quality content? Start a blog on a major blogging site and link back to your sales page. Each time that you complete a new blog on your blog site, that will give you a new link back to your page. That will have the net effect of boosting the PR of your sales page.

Keep in mind that people are going to be reading these pages, not computers. If you follow a few rules and you make your website a place that will appeal to people, then your website will achieve the high PR that it needs in order to get the results that you want for it.
